About Point Lonsdale School of Surfing
Interested in learning to surf in Victoria? Head down the Bellarine Peninsula to Point Lonsdale (near Queenscliff). Point Lonsdale School of Surfing is a family business is run by Mark Phipps, one of Victoria’s most recognised surfers and surfboard shapers.
The Phipps family (Mark, Christine and their three children, Laurie, Nina and Jay) have a pretty cool story. They spend half their year in Point Lonsdale, Victoria, and the other half in Hossegor in the south west of France, living the enviable lifestyle of the ‘endless summer’.
The surf school, open all year round, caters to all skill levels and focuses on the needs of students – whether they are kids on holiday, mums and dads just wanting to have a go or travellers passing through. While surfing is an individual sport, getting there and spending time on the beach can be a great team-building adventure. Ask us about our corporate surfing groups.
All surf lessons take place in a Marine National Park where sea life is abundant, ships pass through, seahorses roam underwater and dolphins are regularly spotted during surfing classes – all against a magnificent backdrop of the Rip and Pt. Nepean.
Mark Phipps began surfing at the age of six. His competitive career includes a 4th at the World Amateur Titles in 1992, a 3rd place in an Australian Open Title and numerous Victorian titles.
Mark is also an extremely talented surfboard shaper. Many of today’s top professional surfers ride his boards in WCT and WQS competitions and he also is one of Quiksilver Surfboards’ main international shapers. If, after your lesson, you want to purchase a custom surfboard, getting one made to match your ability is easily done.
